Llanarmon WI held their May meeting at Jan Singleton’s gallery in Pandy. On 6 th June 10 members and friends left Chirk on the 6.41am train for Cardiff where they had a fascinating tour of the Millenium Centre and visited the Welsh Assembly building. Together we watched some of the business from the visitors gallery and met our AM, Karen Sinclair. We then spent the afternoon variously enjoying the sights of the Bay area, a boat trip, visit to Cardiff Museum, shops and even a ride on the carousel as we wished. We arrived back at Chirk at 10 pm tired but having had a very enjoyable day
Llanarmon DC WI are to help Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham to raise funds by re-cycling old inkjet cartiridges and mobile phones. Please don’t dump these but save them for us and we will arrange a collection point in Glyn Ceiriog and Weston Rhyn on selected Saturday mornings, during the summer, starting with the first one on Saturday, 6 May at 10.30–11.30 am at the Glyn Valley Hotel and Weston Rhyn Village Hall.
Nightingale House can raise a substantial amount of money this way so please help. LB
After the August break, when no meeting was held, we met in September with great enthusiasm.
Final arrangements were made for the catering at Llanarmon Sheepdog Trials and various dates were noted for future WI events. Edward and Fiona Roberts who introduced us to Flamenco Dancing then entertained us. They explained the development of Flamenco and how different regions of Spain had their own rhythm. Then following a demonstration, we were encouraged to ‘have a go’. Everyone had a very enjoyable evening.
The Llanarmon D.C. WI celebrated ninety years of the Women’s Institute in the United Kingdom, in fine style at their monthly meeting in June. It was an open meeting, so many friends joined in the fun.
First we had a stroll around the village with various people telling us what the village was like ninety years ago, what they had been told of course, and who lived in the various properties there. Next we had a talk by Glenys Oldaker, on the reason the WI first began in Canada in 1897 and why it came to Llanfair P.G. in 1915. We had a wonderful exhibition of artefacts used in the 1920’s. Some of the members also produced food, which was cooked with at that time. Everyone had a lovely time. |
