March

Help Wanted: if any one feels they could help me take entries etc. at the Glyn Ceiriog Dog Show and at the Llanarmon Dog Show the following week, I would be very grateful. Please contact Vivien on 01691 600261.

Carnival date: JUNE 13
We are looking for helpers for this year's Carnival. We are only a small group of people who cannot manage to stage this event without your support. We would like help on the day: to set up in the morning, run stalls through the afternoon, cook on the barbeque, help in the refreshments tent, or help run some of the games and activities.
Without your help we would not be able to raise the funds that we give back to the various clubs and activities that are held in the Valley. We fund the day running Bingo sessions*, once a month. By attending these evenings you are helping to raise money, even if you cannot attend the Carnival on the day. Remember, the money may be coming to your group!
Please telephone either David 718663 or Carol 712813 if you can offer any support at all, however small. Thank you.
Carol Clowes, secretary
*Next Bingo, Friday, 13 March, at the Glyn Valley Hotel.

At a recent meeting of the Church Committee it was noted that work had been carried out in the churchyard unknown to the Vicar or Churchwardens. Clearly formal permission is required for permanent works, such as new gravestones, burial of ashes or memorial stones in accordance with the notice board in the churchyard. If repairs to or underpinning of gravestones or other remedial work is required it would be appreciated if the Vicar could be informed of such in advance. This does not include general maintenance of the grave, cleaning, placement of flowers etc., though this activity should be generally in line with the noticeboard rules.
Thank you for your assistance.

That's awesome

As we live in this beautiful part of the Welsh Borderland, we notice that the word AWESOME is tossed around a lot these days. As we talk about the beautiful area we live in, the food we eat, the songs we hear or sing, the films we see or the cars we drive, someone will say, 'That's awesome'!
But if we call earthly materials awesome and then call GOD AWESOME, we diminish how truly AWESOME He is.
Let us agree to make a rule, that the word AWESOME is reserved only for GOD.
Trivializing God is no trivial matter. He is far more than a companion who will fit into our 'Friends system' or a divine answering service that responds to our impulses. Until we are stunned by the awesomeness of God, we will be way too impressed with ourselves and lose the joy of the privilege of belonging to an AWESOME GOD.
A look at the Psalms puts it all in perspective. One psalmist declares 'For the Lord Most High is AWESOME; He is a great King over all the earth' (Psalm 47:2) And another Psalm commands: 'Say to God, ' 'How AWESOME are Your works!' '… 'Come and see the works of God; He is AWESOME in His doing towards the sons of men' (Psalm 66:3,5)
What could be more AWESOME than the LOVE that compelled Jesus to go to the cross for us ? Put Him in His proper place as the only One who is truly AWESOME and praise God for His AWESOME work in your life!
As we walk around this beautiful area, let us remember that if you're too impressed with yourself, take a closer look at God's AWESOMENESS
As we sing that encouraging Hymn by Heber:
Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Which were and are and evermore shalt be.
That is how our GOD is AWESOME

Do you notice your pets scratching their ears? Are there any signs of redness or discharge? Ear problems are surprisingly common and in order to understand them better we need to know a little about the anatomy of the ear.
The ear is a complex structure protected externally by a pinna [or flap]. A narrow external ear canal carries sound down to the ear drum, where it passes onto the middle and inner ear.
Most of the ear problems seen in dogs and cats occur in the external ear canal—a condition called otitis externa [or canker]. Symptoms commonly include ear rubbing, head shaking and reddened skin lining the ear canal. This is often accompanied by a discharge which may be foul smelling.
There are several underlying causes of otitis externa including ear mite infestation [common in puppies and kittens], trapped foreign bodies [such as grass seeds] and localised inflammation of the skin lining the ear canals—often seen as part of a more generalised allergic skin condition.
The key to success with otitis externa is early diagnosis of the underlying cause and effective treatment. Contact your vet if at all concerned about your pet's ears.
Lumps and bumps—don't ignore them!
One of the 'golden rules' of veterinary practice is that early detection of problems will generally give a much better chance of sorting things out. The regular health examinations we give your pet are a key part of this approach. In addition, frequently grooming allows you to keep a watchful eye out for any problems as well!
If your pet develops a lump there may be several possible underlying causes. These include a llergic reactions [such as bee stings], abscesses , hernias , and tumours . If you do find a lump on your pet it is therefore very important that we examine it to determine the underlying cause, allowing any required treatment to be started as soon as possible.
