Vaccination of your pet
It is recommended that you regularly vaccinate your pet against the following—potentially deadly, infectious diseases: Dogs: • Distemper • Infectious Canine Hepatitis • Parvo Virus • Leptospirosis • Para Influenza Virus Cats: • Cat Flu Virus • Feline Panleucopenia Virus • Feline Leukaemia Virus Lost without them Have you ever wondered how you would cope if your pet went missing? Sadly it is all too easy for pets to go missing and the key to finding them is for them to be reliably identified. One solution is the collar and tag and this can work well providing it doesn't come off—a common problem especially in cats who seem to lose their collars with great frequency. The good news, however, is that modern technology has come to our aid in the form of a tiny microchip [about the size of a grain of rice] which, can be quickly and easily implanted under the skin— permanently identifying your pet. Each microchip contains a unique code that identifies your pet and these details are stored on a central computer database. Microchips can be 'read' using a special hand held scanner. Lumps and bumps—don't ignore them! One of the 'golden rules' of veterinary practice is that early detection of problems will generally give us a much better chance of sorting things out. The regular health examinations we give your pet are a key part of this approach. In addition, frequently grooming allows you to keep a watchful eye out for any problems as well! If your pet develops a lump there may be several possible underlying causes. These include a llergic reactions [such as bee stings], abscesses , hernias , and tumours . If you do find a lump on your pet it is therefore very important that we examine it to determine the underlying cause, allowing any required treatment to be started as soon as possible.
Something I always enjoy is watching our resident pair of buzzards. I’ve mentioned them before, and again this year they successfully raised three chicks to adulthood. The female is near 5' [140 cms] wingspan, a large and powerful member of her race, while as is usual, her mate is considerably smaller, about 3' 10'' [130 cms] but faster and more manoeuvrable making him the deadlier hunter. Watching him beating a line of trees trying to surprise a pigeon, blackbird or young crow is always amazing, seeing him fold his wings at the last minute to pass through a gap in the foliage much smaller than his wingspan and recover instantly to bank and beat along the other side.
As with most predators, the favoured method of hunting is developed early in life dependent on which prey first falls foul of them. Other methods will be used in other circumstances but each individual will spend most time in the one hunting method. The young are being fed less now and beg for food whenever the parents are near, using their voices and flying around them in hopes. Eventually they give up and usually settle in a field to satisfy themselves with worms and beetles. In February or March they will have to leave home and find their own territory somewhere in the big world, whence the cycle will start again and I will watch the next generation. God with us.
Since that first Christmas Day 2,000 years ago, the assurance that God is with His people has taken on new meaning. Before Jesus was born, the Israelites were assured that even in judgment they could have hope because God was with them, this is what the prophet Isaiah said in the 8th chapter, 8th and 10th verse. Yet they did not know God as fully as we can today. We have a great advantage because through reading the New Testament we can see the glory of God 'in the face of Jesus Christ' [2 Corinthians 4:6]. And we can sense His presence in all situations of life because He is real to us by the Holy Spirit [Romans 8: 10–16] When I need to be reassured that God is with me, I think about Jesus as He is revealed in the New Testament. I recall how He took little children in His arms and blessed them [Mathew 19: 13 –15]. Then I think of His crucifixion, which reminds me of all He endured to be my Saviour [27: 27–54]. Finally I reflect on His promise, 'I am with you always, even to the end of the age' [28:20]. The birth of Jesus gave new significance to the name Immanuel which means 'God with us' Mathew 1:23 states 'Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they will call His name Immanuel, which is translated God with us.' Because He lived among us, died for us, and sent His Spirit to indwell us, we can rejoice ! Charles Wesley was inspired to say: Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, Hail the incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus, our Immanuel. Let us encourage each other this Christmas by remembering that God came to live with us so we could live with Him. Have a meaningful Christmas. Another month has passed and we are preparing for our Christmas Market on the 29th of this month.
We have pickled our Beetroot and made Chutneys and now getting ready to make the hampers for the raffle. We have been here, there and everywhere, weekly swimming at the Orthopaedic, Bowling at the Venue. We have been entertained by S & G Productions singing songs from the shows, which was lovely to sing along with and brought a lot of memories back for a lot of us, especially one resident who was asked what her favourite musical was and she answered 'Des O'Conner' and we all said, 'Oh Bless, Des The Musical'. Halloween was very tasty with 'Frog in the Swamp soup and afters were Eyeballs in jelly'. Quiz pertaining to all things Halloween and in the evening a visit from youngsters 'Trick-a-Treating' in their scary costumes and entertained us with songs from the charts. We are arranging Christmas shopping trips for everyone which is a mammoth task as you can imagine. Bye for now, kindest regards Lynda Read and the Residents.
Wrexham Borough Councilor Barbara Roberts would like to wish all her constituents a happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year.
