An army of voluntary workers descended on the playing field at Glyn Ceiriog at 8 am on Saturday, 9 June and quickly transformed the whole area, by setting up colourful stalls etc., all ready for the Annual Carnival.
The parade which set off at 1 pm was led by Llangollen Silver Band, followed by the Carnival Float on which sat the Queen and her two princesses, they were followed by vintage vehicles, competitors in the Fancy Dress competition, pony and trap, collectors dressed as a gorilla, a white rabbit and the mad hatter, etc., and all escorted by the Police. On their return to the field, Wrexham County Borough Council Mayor Cllr Joan Lowe of Penycae officially opened the Carnival, and remarked on the wonderful community spirit within the Ceiriog Valley which had made the event possible. Cllr Lowe then crowned the Queen, Laureen Lowe of Ysgol Cyneddelw, and congratulated her princesses, Megan Williams of Ysgol Pontfadog and Tesni Edwards of Ysgol Llanarmon DC. The retiring Queen, Stacey Jones of Llanarmon then presented the Mayor with a floral bouquet. Cllr Lowe judged the Fancy Dress competition and awarded the prizes as follows: 1. Josh Williams; 2. Sinaed Chambers; equal 3: Boyd Matthews, Jake Williams and Zachary Mathews. There was entertainment throughout the afternoon, which included Japanese Sword Fencing and Line Dancing together with the opportunity to compete in various competitions. It was possible to buy all manner of items from the numerous stalls. Musical items were provided by Llangollen Silver band, The Dirtroad Blues and Roy Ward and his Band. Winners in the children's races were: Morys Davies, Lucinda Evans, Ciron Davies and Rona Williams. The Duck race, which drew considerable attention was won by Ifan Roberts and the Treasure Hunt by Karl and Jenna. The Quiz was won by Margaret Swift. The event ended with the releasing of the balloons and drawing the raffle. Thanks are expressed to all who took part in helping to achieve a profit of £2,500 which will be used for the benefit of the new Canolfan Ceiriog Centre.
Here we are another lovely summers day as I write this everything is beautiful and the gardens thanks to Trudy, Geoff and team are looking wonderful. Slight change in our summer market on the 28 July and that is that /'The Invisible Band' /are unable to play that day and hopefully playing on one afternoon in September, weather permitting. Instead along with our food and cake stalls we have some continental music. If there are any young people out there wanting to clear out their games and toys to make way for new ones for Christmas this is the place to bring them and sell them on for just a small donation for the stall. Please let me know and that starts at 1.30 pm.
We are looking forward to seeing some of the Eisteddfod entertainers when they are here and on the 17 July Rob and Nat are performing Blue Grass music at 7 pm. Six of the residents are going on holidays swapping with residents from other L.C. services. Please come and join us and enjoy some food and music on the 28 July and you are welcome to come along to any of our entertainment's at any time, we do a good cuppa and a piece of cake. Have a lovely July? All the best Diane and the residents at Dolywern.
On the slopes of the Berwyn to the west of Llanarmon an icy cold underground spring gushes out to form the Ceiriog River, this flows to meet the River Dee, north of Chirk. The Dee itself had started in a similar way, from a spring on the slopes of the Aran , south of Llanuwchllyn, flowing through Tegid (Bala) Lake, through Llangollen, Chester then into the sea. Many will recall when young filling their containers with water from springs on their farms or in their village.
Water quenches our thirst and sustains our life. In Scripture, water serves as a word picture of the sufficiency of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus's day, during the Feast of Tabernaclesa choir sang while a priest filled a gold jug with water and poured it out. This reminded all those present of the water that gushed from the rock during the wilderness wanderings of Moses, as he led the people out of Egypt. As this ritual was taking place, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, 'He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). This source is the Holy Spirit, who is like a well of satisfaction' ( 7:39). Earlier the Lord had made the dramatic claim that the believer would have a continual source of spiritual refreshment ( 4:14)Are you thirsty today? Confess your sin, and Christ will fill you with His Spirit. As you yield to His will, He will graciously fill you with living water springing up to eternal life. Gracious and Almighty Saviour,Source of all that shall endure,Quench my thirst with living water, Lving water, clear and pure. Vinal Only Christ, the living water, can quench our spiritual thirst. Be Blessed. Yours in Christ Glyn Pastor Rev'd R. Glyn Jones, Bryn Glas, Glyn Ceiriog, Llangollen, LL20 7EU Tel 01691 718086, m: 07760328752 |
